Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner Review

Lately, I’ve been testing several Dr. Hauschka products and I am reviewing Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner next.

The brand has now become one of my favourite green beauty brands as their products actually work and are quite impressive (well, most of them). So I’ve had high expectations for their toner but did it impress me, or not so much? Let’s take a look…

Like all Dr. Hauschka products, their Facial Toner is 100% natural and made with the highest quality organic ingredients confirmed by NATRUE certification. It is suitable for normal, dry and sensitive skin and made to fortify, balance and refresh your complexion. It is also suitable for skin in need of regeneration.

Ingredients

The ingredient list is very short and simple which is really what you want from a toner. The ingredients are as follows:

  • Aqua (water)
  • Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract – medicinal plant used in traditional medicine for the treatment of wounds. The word ‘vulneraria’ actually means “wound healer”. In this toner, anythyllis fortifies and balances the skin and with regular use it will help it become softer.
  • Alcohol – helps to preserve the product
  • Hamamelis Virginiana Bark/Leaf Extract – witch hazel extract refines pores and reduces skin irritation
  • Parfum – from essential oils
  • Compounds occuring naturally in essential oils: Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Citral – potential allergens

Review

Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner comes in a 100 ml spritzer bottle made of glass. When sprayed, you get a super fine mist which is so lovely. It’s perfect for when you need to refresh your face quickly. For me, this is not an essential feature though as I normally use toners without spraying.

I don’t find this toner particularly hydrating which is fine as this is not its purpose.

Despite containing alcohol and some potentially irritating compounds (from essential oils), I have not found it irritating on my skin. It’s actually quite gentle and doesn’t make my skin any drier. I love using it underneath a serum and moisturiser as it helps to spread and absorb everything more easily (when it’s damp on my face).

The scent is lovely, natural, very subtle and not overpowering. It doesn’t linger on the skin. Not sure what essential oils they use to create this scent but it’s certainly not herbal, it’s a more fruity, slightly sweet scent, not citrusy.

In terms of performance, it does what it’s supposed to do. It balances and refreshes the skin, making it ready for the next step in the skincare routine. But when it comes to skin irritations I am not sure how it works on those as I haven’t had an opportunity to test it on them.

This toner has been great on my (not very oily) skin which is prone to breakouts. I think it should be fine on oily skin as well but if you have dry skin I recommend you get yourself a hydrating toner such as this toner from Alteya Organics.

All in all, Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner is a lovely natural toner, 100% natural, non-irritating, non-drying with a nice scent that doesn’t linger on the skin. This is a perfect toner for normal, combination and sensitive skin, the only thing that may put some people off is its price. It’s not cheap!
