Having not tried body butter or body cream for a long time, I was anxious to try this award-winning product. The packaging is bright, stylish, and reasonably compact. The butter itself is even a lovely, buttery colour!

About Lyonsleaf
A UK-based company, Lyonsleaf produces, amongst other things: hand and body creams, body butters, tattoo creams, hair care products and even nappy creams!
Their products are water-free, eliminating the need for preservatives and emulsifiers. The company specialises in growing organically certified herbs on their farm in Somerset to utilise in their products.
They differ from other skincare brands for the following reasons:
- They aim to limit plastic use and decrease carbon and waste emissions.
- They pay their staff above the living wage.
- So, if their products seem expensive, it’s to provide this and to ensure only the best ingredients are utilised.
Lyonsleaf 100% Natural Body Butter
This 100% natural body butter is cruelty-free, vegan and made with 98% organic ingredients. It is multi-award-winning: Free from Skincare Awards 2015, The Green Parent Natural Beauty Awards 2021, and the Beauty Bible Awards 2022.
It has a subtle scent, made by fusing Clary Sage and Geranium essential oils into the shea butter, coconut, avocado, and Vitamin E oil base. Sunflower oil and calendula flower extract are also present.
If your skin is particularly dry, coconut oil is a great option, as it will provide much-needed moisturisation for your skin.
Avocado oil is also great for dry skin and sunflower oil is an ideal carrier oil if you’re prone to acne breakouts.
The mixture of essential oils in this body butter helps control sebum production, allowing the skin to function optimally. The mixture of oils mentioned above makes this product perfect for skin that’s not too greasy or too dry. The ingredients are also undiluted, so 100% natural.
Antioxidants are numerous in the essential and natural oils within this product, so they will have both an anti-ageing effect on your skin and prevent free-radical damage. Free radicals are unstable atoms which can impair cells, but antioxidants may reduce this damage.
Review
This body butter feels substantial. It is slightly greasy on application, but this simply means less is more. Plus, you expect body butter to be oilier than body cream.
It takes a few attempts to get the right amount, but I soon worked it out and the product rubbed in without being greasy after a few minutes.
I found the scent very pleasant, bolder than some I’ve tried but not so bold as to be off-putting. It is advertised as a unisex scent and that seems accurate.
It’s best to apply very small amounts to a few spaced-out areas of skin first. Then, apply in circular motions.
After application, my skin feels oily, but it soon absorbs, and my skin becomes smooth. After using this body butter for a week, I noticed my skin was smoother to the touch.
Verdict
9/10 for scent
9/10 for ‘Green Factor’
7/10 for price
8/10 for ‘feel’
I am fond of this body butter. I couldn’t stop smelling it! It really reinvigorates dry, sundried, tired skin. And my skin was certainly tired after completing a 15.5-mile trek around the Peak District hills!
You feel as if you’ve just had a massage once you’ve finished the application because A) you have it, for free and delivered by yourself… and B) the essential oils are reminiscent of lying resplendent on the massage bed! I would definitely recommend this product. Get it on Amazon here.
