Weleda Wheat Balancing Shampoo – Review

I’ve had no issues with my scalp over summer but now that the days are colder I’ve noticed that my scalp is getting drier and from time to time it gets itchy as well. It’s quite annoying and I don’t understand why this is happening as it was totally fine before but it must be something to do with the colder weather as I haven’t really changed my diet.

So I thought to help with this issue I would try a new natural shampoo for me – Weleda Wheat Balancing shampoo. This shampoo has been made specifically to re-balance hair and scalp and to reduce dandruff. It promotes a healthy scalp while reducing flakes and itchiness.

Weleda is a brand that I am a big fan of and I’ve tried several of their products already. Weleda is a global brand which was the first to start producing natural cosmetics. They always work in harmony with nature and they are always sustainable and ethical.

What’s more, Weleda’s products are 100% certified natural and they all carry the NATRUE seal. When you see this seal you know that the products are genuinely natural and produced with the highest standards.

And now back to Weleda Wheat Balancing Shampoo… so what did I think of it?

First of all, the shampoo has a lovely fresh scent and I can smell a very faint tea tree scent which is mixed with some other scents so it’s not very powerful. On the scent department, Weleda always seems to tick this box. Apart from the tea tree, the other ingredients that contribute to a lovely fresh scent are rosemary and copaiba balsam.

The shampoo foams really well and as I use it I can feel my hair starting to soften and instead of becoming a tangled mess (which happens with some of the shampoos), it actually starts to feel really manageable. Looking at the ingredients list, it’s probably natural wheatgerm oil that is responsible for this effect although it could also be a combination of other ingredients.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Disodium Coco-Glucoside Citrate, Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids, Alcohol, Glycerin, Fragrance (Parfum)*, Xanthan Gum, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Glyceryl Caprylate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sodium PCA, Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract, Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract, Viola Tricolor Extract, Lactic Acid, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sucrose Laurate, PCA Glyceryl Oleate, Arginine, Sodium Phytate, Limonene*, Linalool*, Geraniol*, Coumarin*. *from natural essential oils

Just to mention that my hair is fine, pretty long and it’s very easy to knot. The ends are dry while my scalp gets oily very quickly and as mentioned already, it’s now also drier and occasionally itchy. I must say, buying the right shampoo for my hair is definitely not easy and although I already have some favourites, I always like to explore other natural shampoos and compare them to see which one I prefer.

Weleda’s Balancing Shampoo cleans my hair really well, I don’t feel any residue left behind after the wash and my hair feels softer and manageable. I even did the test and used this shampoo without my normal conditioner and wow, I was really impressed. I managed to comb through my hair alright, and there were only a few knots in my hair which were easy to detangle.

When it comes to dryness on my scalp, the shampoo is definitely doing something although it doesn’t totally get rid of it but I think with regular use I can potentially stop my scalp from getting worse.

I am not sure whether this shampoo is doing anything for my oily hair though and I don’t think it contributes towards my hair feeling fresher for longer. I think my hair gets greasy as it would normally do or maybe gets greasy even slightly earlier when using this shampoo.

Overall, this is not a bad natural shampoo if you suffer from dandruff and it’s definitely worth trying. But I think it’s probably more suitable for the normal type of hair (not the greasy type!) and it’s especially great for those whose hair tangles a lot. Although I would like to add that the best way to see whether it’s suitable for you is to test it. You may be pleasantly surprised.
