Weleda Pomegranate & Maca Peptides Firming Day Cream Review

When the weather turned colder this year, my usual basic face cream suddenly gave up on me. One week my skin was fine, the next it felt tight, dry and a bit miserable. More time indoors, heating on, cold air outside… my face didn’t love it.

I tried fixing it the usual way – layering rosehip oil on top and hoping for the best. Normally that helps. This time, nothing. My skin still felt dry and uncomfortable and I honestly started losing faith in that brand.

Then I spotted Weleda Pomegranate Day Cream with Maca Peptides on offer in the shop and just grabbed it. No big research, no overthinking, just a “let’s see what happens” kind of moment. Spoiler: it turned out to be a very, very good impulse buy.

So… what did it actually do for my skin?

Honestly, the difference was almost instant.

From the first time I used it, my skin just felt… relieved.
You know that feeling when your face finally stops shouting at you? That.

It felt softer.
Less tight.
A bit plumper, in a nice “I’ve had sleep and water” kind of way, not in a greasy way.

Over the next few days, things just kept getting better.
Those fine lines that suddenly looked harsher in the colder weather?
They softened. My skin looked smoother and a bit more “alive” again.

And it’s not a heavy cream at all, which I love.
It’s light, sinks in quickly and doesn’t sit on top of the skin.
Makeup goes on absolutely fine over it – no weird pilling or shiny film.

At night I sometimes add a few drops of rosehip oil on top, just to lock everything in.
That combo finally got my dryness under control again.

Why does it feel so nice? A quick look at the ingredients

I’m not a cosmetic chemist, but I do like to know roughly why something works.

This cream isn’t just “a bit of oil and water mixed together”. It’s packed with some lovely skin-friendly ingredients that make sense for skin that’s starting to show lines and gets drier with age and colder weather.

Here are a few that stand out to me:

  • Pomegranate seed oil (Punica Granatum Seed Oil)
This is the big star. It’s rich in antioxidants and is known for supporting skin regeneration and elasticity. In normal-person language: it helps your skin look a bit firmer and more radiant over time.
  • Maca root peptides (Hydrolyzed Lepidium Meyenii Root)
These are meant to support firmness and help reduce the look of fine lines. Peptides are basically little messengers that tell your skin to behave more like its younger self.
  • Olive leaf extract (Olea Europaea Leaf Extract)
Another antioxidant-rich ingredient. It’s there to help protect the skin from everyday stress and keep it looking healthier and more even.
  • Millet seed extract (Panicum Miliaceum Seed Extract)
A plant extract that’s often used in “firming” or “revitalising” formulas. Think of it as one more helper in the glow and elasticity department.
  • Sesame, macadamia and sunflower oils
These are nourishing plant oils that help soften the skin and make it feel more comfortable, without making the cream heavy or greasy.
  • Hydrators: Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Betaine
These are classic moisture magnets. They help draw water into the skin and keep it there, so you don’t get that tight, dehydrated feeling by lunchtime.
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E)
A well-known antioxidant that helps protect the skin and supports the formula overall.
  • Cetearyl Olivate & Sorbitan Olivate
These are olive-derived emulsifiers that help the cream feel smooth and spreadable. They also tend to be quite skin-friendly and give that “plush but not greasy” texture.
  • Tapioca Starch, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan
Texture helpers that make the cream feel silky and lightweight on the skin, rather than sticky or heavy.

There is fragrance in here (plus some components from natural essential oils), which I’ll talk about next. But overall, it feels like a well-thought-out formula: light in texture, but with enough oils, extracts and hydrators to actually do something. And my face clearly approves.

Ingredients of Weleda Pomegranate Day Firming Cream with Peptides

The scent – lovely for me, but not for every skin

Let’s talk about the smell, because that’s important for a lot of people.

To me, the scent is really lovely.
Floral, gentle, a bit “grown up”, but not overpowering.
I notice it when I apply the cream, and then it pretty much fades away.

On my skin, it doesn’t cause any irritation at all. No redness, no stinging, nothing. I’m totally fine with it.

But – and this is a big but – this cream does contain fragrance and some fragrance components from natural essential oils, like:

  • Fragrance (Parfum)
  • Limonene
  • Linalool
  • Geraniol
  • Citral
  • Coumarin
  • Benzyl Benzoate

They’re naturally derived, but that doesn’t automatically mean “safe for everyone”. If your skin is:

  • Extremely sensitive
  • Very reactive
  • Rosacea-prone
  • Eczema-prone
  • Or you know you don’t tolerate fragranced products well

…then this probably isn’t the best choice for you, or at least it’s one to patch test very carefully.

For me personally, the scent is a plus – it makes the cream feel a bit more “spa-like” without being too much. But if you’re firmly in the “fragrance-free only” camp, this won’t be your friend.

How it feels on my skin

First, the packaging: this cream comes in a jar, not a tube.
I know that’s a downside for some people – you’re dipping your fingers in, and the product is a bit more exposed to air. It doesn’t bother me personally, but if you’re very picky about hygiene or oxidation, that’s something to keep in mind.

Texture-wise, it feels really lovely.
Not thick and heavy, but not like a gel either – a nice, soft cream that feels comforting without being greasy.

When I apply it, it spreads easily and sinks in quickly.
No stickiness, no greasy layer, no “I can feel my moisturiser sitting there” feeling.
My skin just feels smoother, softer and a lot less tight.

It also behaves really well under makeup.
I don’t get any pilling, and my foundation doesn’t slide around or go patchy.
It just gives me a comfortable, hydrated base and then kind of disappears.

It’s not a super-rich, balm-like cream for very dry or damaged skin, but for my 40+ sensitive, slightly dry-in-winter face, it hits a really nice sweet spot.

So, should you get it?

If your skin sounds a bit like mine, this cream is honestly worth a look.

I’m 40+ and my skin gets drier as soon as the weather turns colder and the heating goes on. My basic moisturiser completely stopped working for me, and this one made a real, noticeable difference – softer skin, less tightness, fine lines looking a bit more relaxed.

I’d say it’s a good fit if:

  • You’re 35+ (or 40+ like me) and starting to notice lines
  • Your skin gets dry or tight in colder months but isn’t extremely dry
  • You like lighter creams that still feel properly moisturising
  • You want something that works under makeup and doesn’t feel heavy
  • You don’t mind (or even enjoy) a lightly floral, natural-style fragrance
  • You’re ok with a jar format

I’d be more cautious if:

  • You’re very reactive, rosacea-prone or eczema-prone
  • You only use fragrance-free skincare
  • You need a super-rich, heavy cream for severely dry or compromised skin

For me, this has been a very happy impulse buy.
It rescued my winter-dry, slightly grumpy 40+ skin, it feels lovely to use, and I actually look forward to putting it on.

So yes, I’d absolutely keep using it – and I’d buy it again, especially if I spot it on offer.
