Salt Of The Earth Natural Deodorant: My Honest Review

Over the years, I’ve experimented with a variety of natural deodorants, and I’ve noticed that many of them share similar ingredients—baking soda, coconut oil, shea butter, and the like. So, out of curiosity, I decided to give Salt Of The Earth Natural Deodorant in the Lavender & Vanilla scent a try.

To be honest, though, this is the first natural deodorant that I really didn’t get along with, and based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it (even though I know some people love it). For clarity, I used the Natural Deodorant Stick, not the Roll-on, though both versions come in the same Lavender & Vanilla scent.

Here’s my honest review…

What I Liked About Salt Of The Earth Natural Deodorant

Let’s start with the positives. The Salt Of The Earth Natural Deodorant is made from 100% natural ingredients, which is the main reason I decided to try it. It’s also plastic-free, packaged in sturdy cardboard that can be recycled.

Plus, it’s refillable, which is a bonus for those looking to reduce waste. On top of that, it’s suitable for both vegans and vegetarians.

I found that it helped with odor control, but it didn’t keep me dry—which is expected, as most natural deodorants don’t.

What’s Inside? A Look at the Ingredients

The ingredient list is a bit longer than some other natural deodorants I’ve tried, but it includes some good stuff. It contains:

  • Coconut oil and shea butter for moisturising the skin.
  • Arrowroot powder to absorb sweat.
  • Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), which is antibacterial and helps eliminate odor.

The fragrance comes from natural essential oils and extracts, which I always appreciate. However, there are also some other ingredients worth mentioning:

  • Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride – Derived from coconut oil and glycerin, it helps soften the skin.
  • Stearyl Alcohol – A fatty alcohol that improves the texture of the deodorant.
  • Calcium Carbonate – Helps absorb sweat.
  • Magnesium Hydroxide – Neutralises odour-causing bacteria without irritating the skin.
  • Diatomaceous Earth – Works as an odour eliminator.
  • Zinc Oxide – Known for reducing body odour effectively.
  • Rosemary Leaf Extract – An antibacterial ingredient that helps reduce underarm odour.
  • Copernicia Cerifera Cera (Carnauba Wax) – A natural thickening agent that provides texture and structure to the formula. It also has emollient properties, which help soften the skin.
  • Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquioleate – A natural emulsifier derived from sunflower oil and rapeseed.
  • Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil – Nourishes the skin.

Application Issues and Performance

Initially, I found the deodorant easy to apply. It spread smoothly and melted into my skin without a problem. But after using it for a while, things started to go wrong.

texture

The first issue was with pushing the stick up. Once the top bit was used, it became incredibly difficult to push more out. It felt like the stick was stuck, and to this day, I still can’t get it to work properly. I’ve resorted to scooping the deodorant out with my fingers, which is far from ideal.

Another problem is that the deodorant started crumbling. It’s like the whole thing lost its structure and began falling apart. The texture is soft to the touch, but it’s also weirdly crumbly, making it even more difficult to use.

The Scent: A Hit or Miss

The scent is subtle, which I liked. You can definitely smell the lavender, but the vanilla is almost non-existent. So if you’re expecting a strong lavender-vanilla combo, you might be disappointed.

My Final Verdict: Skip It

Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend buying this deodorant. While I love the eco-friendly packaging and natural ingredients, the formula needs some work. The texture issues and difficulty in using the stick were too frustrating to overlook.

If you’re looking for a natural deodorant that actually works, I recommend trying one of Elsa’s natural deodorants. I’ve used them in the past and had a much better experience. Another natural deodorant on a stick worth considering is from The Ilex Wood brand.
